When you’re moving out of the UK for work on an international assignment, there’s a lot to do in a short space of time. There’s the packing and shipping of your things, and much more besides! We know you have plenty of questions, so we’ve picked the brains of our work movers maestro. As an international relocation company, we had overseen hundreds of work-related relocations, so we’ve plenty of advice for making smooth sailing of your international move.
Q1. Do you supply packing materials?
We do the packing for you! With our packing service, our team will pack all your belongings in a safe, secure way that adheres to international standards. This isn’t an added extra; it’s included in all our quotes. So your things get professionally packed without you (or your boss) having to spend a penny with our overseas moving service.
Q2.Can you arrange my visas and work permits for me?
I’m afraid not! We’d love to be able to do this for our customers, but you need to arrange these yourself. But we can help. The requirements for international moves change all the time, so it can be a bit of a minefield.
Q3.When do I get an accurate quote for my move?
Once we've completed the virtual survey you'll receive a proposal with your quote. Other relocation companies might hand out vague quotes but that’s not very helpful, especially when you need to move in a hurry. So we do a thorough survey of what needs moving and give an accurate quote. So you won’t have to play quote tennis with HR, Finance, or whoever’s signing the cheques: you can just give them the one quote and focus on the move itself!
Q4.Can you help me understand the new culture when working overseas?
We get it. You’re joining a new team in a new office and you want to make a good impression. Not only that, but you want to be able to enjoy your experience in a new country without making any embarrassing mistakes. That’s why we offer you our Intercultural Training support.
We work with you to understand what you already know about the working culture you’re moving to and where you need support. We’ll give you one-to-one coaching in the areas you need help with, filling any gaps in your understanding and making sure you’re ready to go from day one.
Q5.Can you help me overcome the language barrier?
If you’re relocating abroad for work to a country where English isn’t the first language and you’re worried, you’re not alone. 64% of Brits don’t speak a second language. Or perhaps you do speak the language, but you’re feeling a little rusty. Either way, you might not have much time to get up to speed, which is why we offer a range of language courses to help you learn a new language and get settled in your new life.
Our courses can be taken in groups or on a one-to-one basis, and they’ll be specifically tailored to your needs, including any technical terminology used by your business. You can combine our language courses with Intercultural Training to get a complete picture of your new home!
Q6.Can I bring my pet if I move to another country?
Yes, although every country has its own rules about what animals they’ll allow you to relocate with. So it’s best to get in touch with your Move Manager as soon as you can. They can tell you whether your pet can come with you, what paperwork you need, and how to go about making the move a comfortable one for you and your pet!
Q7.Can you help me when I arrive?
Absolutely.
After all, your boss wants you to hit the ground running, right? And it’s easy to overlook all the little jobs that need doing when you move to a new country. Even if you’re moving to a country with a similar culture, you’ll quickly discover they have different ways of doing things. The little jobs like setting up your Internet connection can be drastically different from what you’ve come to expect from living in the UK.
